Love Home

Tenants in the private rented sector have traditionally faced barriers to personalising their homes, with even small changes requiring written consent, leading to feelings of disconnection and a lack of that sense of home. Our Love Home programme works with tenants to create warm, welcoming spaces that promote safety and a sense of belonging.

There’s a difference between a house and a home – and that’s exactly why we do what we do.

- Sharon Fagan, Love Home Design Manager

Since 2019, Love Home has been leading the way in giving renters more creative freedom by teaming up with our in-house interior design experts to help them redecorate their homes. So far, 44 tenants have added their unique touch to their living spaces, resulting in happier individuals and families who feel more connected to their homes.

The whole point of Love Home is to make it homely, make the tenant feel settled and – for a lot of people – feel safe.

Marilyn, Homes for Good tenant: “My living room renovation was a top-to-bottom redo – I got new carpets, curtains and wall paints done. The best part was working with someone professional, feeling encouraged and guided. Love Home brings warmth and happiness to my home and soul.”

Case study: Grace-Anne

Grace-Anne has been our tenant since 2014. She was referred to Love Home by tenancy support because she wanted a warmer, more homely living space. “I went to see Grace-Anne in her flat, which was a private landlord’s property,” says Love Home Design Manager Sharon Fagan. “She had it looking lovely, with twinkly lights everywhere, but there was no colour.”

Grace-Anne had never truly felt at home in rented accommodation. Sharon explains, “She was always waiting for the knock at the door to say, ‘I’m selling up – you need to move out.’” That fear became a reality, and Grace-Anne had to leave her flat. However, she was subsequently offered a Homes for Good property, which allowed her to finally feel at home. “Now, there's colour everywhere; she’s worked on designs for each room and has put in feature walls. You can see she feels at home,” says Sharon. “She’s also created all her artwork – her living room is like a mini-exhibition.”

It’s helped build my confidence in my own abilities and put my trust back in people. I’ve had a lot of encouragement – it’s uncovered talents I didn’t know were there.

The Dyke Street Development

After Eddie had a stroke in 2013, he moved out of his flat to a retirement complex. The flat remained empty for years, with a broken door and caved-in ceiling. When his family decided to sell it, his cousin Frank contacted the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, which connected them with our very own Barry Sweeney. “It was the best thing that ever happened,” says Frank.
